U.S. Embassy Directs Certain Visa Applicants to Make Social Media Profiles Public

The U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh has announced a new requirement for certain nonimmigrant visa applicants, directing them to make all social media profiles publicly accessible as part of the visa application process.

According to the embassy, the measure will take effect from March 30, 2026, and is intended to facilitate identity verification and eligibility screening for individuals seeking entry into the United States.

The requirement applies to applicants seeking the following visa categories:

  • A-3
  • C-3 (for domestic employees)
  • G-5
  • H-3
  • H-4 (dependents)
  • K-1
  • K-2
  • K-3
  • Q
  • R-1
  • R-2
  • S
  • T
  • U

Under the updated guidance, applicants in these categories must ensure that the privacy settings of all their social media accounts are set to “Public“ during the visa application review process.

The embassy stated that reviewing publicly available social media information helps U.S. authorities confirm an applicant’s identity and assess eligibility for entry into the country. The requirement is part of broader screening procedures designed to strengthen security and improve the integrity of the visa process.

Visa applicants are encouraged to carefully review their social media information and ensure that the details provided in their visa applications accurately match their online profiles.

The U.S. Embassy advises affected applicants to follow the new guidelines to avoid potential delays in visa processing.

For additional information, applicants can visit the official U.S. visa information resources and embassy announcements.
